Reality TV Couple Faces Years Behind Bars
Todd and Julie Chrisley, the stars of the reality TV show "Chrisley Knows Best," were sentenced on Monday to federal prison after being convicted of fraud and tax evasion.
A jury found the couple guilty in June of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, bank fraud, and tax fraud. Todd Chrisley was also convicted of conspiracy to defraud the United States and obstruction of justice.
The couple was sentenced to 12 and seven years in prison, respectively. They were also ordered to pay $17.2 million in restitution.
The charges against the Chrisleys stem from a scheme to defraud banks out of more than $30 million in loans. The couple also failed to pay taxes on their income for several years.
In a statement after the sentencing, the Chrisleys said they were "deeply saddened" by the verdict and that they planned to appeal.
